June in Phoenix isn’t a weather forecast — it’s a way of life. The steering wheel burns your hands. The dog won’t set a paw on the pavement past 10 AM. You keep a second hat in the car because the first one melted into the seat. We started Arizona Sun Gear because we got tired of generic “outdoor” stores that don’t quite get it.

🌵 How This Started

A few years back, we were hunting for a decent windshield sunshade that actually fit a full-size truck cab and wouldn’t flop onto the dashboard by noon. Couldn’t find one. Bought something that said “fits all vehicles” — it did not fit our vehicle. Bought another. Same story. Ended up making a list of every product we’d searched for, couldn’t find, or bought and returned.

That list became Arizona Sun Gear. We don’t carry everything. We carry the things that kept coming up on that list — products vetted by people who spend real time outdoors in the Sonoran Desert, not imported wholesale from some warehouse catalog.

🔥 Why We Only Sell What We’d Actually Use

There’s no shortage of “sun protection” products online. Most of them were designed somewhere cold, by people who consider 75°F a hot day. The phrasing gives it away: “perfect for beach trips” or “great for summer activities.” We don’t do beach trips. We do May through October.

Every product in our store has been looked at with a simple question: would this hold up on a Tuesday afternoon in Scottsdale? That rules out a lot. What’s left is what we sell.

What We Actually Check Before Stocking Something

  • ✅ Works at temperatures most product tests don’t even run — not just “up to 85°F”
  • ✅ Doesn’t fall apart when left in a hot car (because everything lives in a hot car here)
  • ✅ Sized and designed for real people doing real things — not fitness influencer photo shoots
  • ✅ Pet-safe when that’s relevant — because pavement temps in July are no joke
  • ✅ Priced fairly — we’re not trying to sell you a $60 hat clip
